The Middle School Ministry at Mt. Calvary centers around the task of creating “empowered individuals”. We believe that everyone has unique gifts and talents that God has blessed them with; therefore, our mission is to discover exactly who God has created our students to be.
The cornerstone program for Middle School Ministry is Confirmation, which meets during the Faith Formation Program on Wednesday nights. From 5:30pm-6:30pm there will be dinner in the Sullivan Room and then from 6:30pm-7:30pm the Confirmation Group will meet in the upstairs classroom. Confirmation Classes are for all students in grades six – eight, and center on teachings from the Bible and the Lutheran tradition. These classes are always a blast and full of energy as students dive into their faith.
Our Confirmation students always point to their experiences at summer camp as some of the most meaningful times in their faith. Every year, the Mount Calvary Middle School students attend one full week of Confirmation camp at Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp in Hillside, CO. The week is centered on students taking leadership positions as they explore new areas in their faith. Please visit rainbowtrail.org for more information.
Middle School Youth Gathering
Each year in January, the Rocky Mountain Synod of the ELCA hosts the Middle School Youth Gathering. Groups from all over the region come together in the name of Christ to worship, serve, and play together. This weekend is always a great experience and connects our students to a larger church that strives to make the world a better place in which to live.
The Confirmation Project
At the end of their Confirmation journey, students going into 9th grade are asked to complete their Confirmation Project. These projects are completely created by the student and are serviced-based in nature. For the first step of the project, a meeting is held between the student, their parents, and confirmation teachers. During that meeting the group discusses the gifts, passions, and interests of that student and the needs of the community. These empowered students then take the next step and are completely supported by the community that surrounds them as they work on their customized project. Examples of past projects have been a bicycle drive for Boulder’s Community Cycles, kick-starting Mount Calvary’s nursery program, and the creation of a Mission Trip highlight video.
