Fresh Lavender is Making Colorado Even More Colorful!

Mountain View lavender

Some of you may already know this, but for others it may come as a surprise. There really is a lavender field in Boulder County. And the farmer is a member of Mount Calvary—it’s me, Mike Richters!

Later this month the farm will open to the public for the first time. Lavender lovers from as far away as Laramie and Colorado Springs are already waiting for that first day so they can cut their own bundles of lavender flowers.

I wanted to let Mount Calvary members know about opening day, because I’ll be using the proceeds as my “First Fruits” offering to the church. All of the fresh lavender sales that day will be my offering to Mount Calvary. Is that a big deal? Well, it could be. Each person there will likely spend four to ten dollars on bundles of lavender. (And those Laramie Lavender Lovers are planning to spend more.) You do the math.

So, this is a good time to invite every friend, neighbor, and relative that you can find to come pick flowers that day. Every bundle of lavender sold will benefit the church. The first $5,000 is dedicated to the Youth Group to help them get to the next Youth Gathering. And everything over that will go to Mount Calvary’s General Fund. We all know how helpful that will be.

I only ask a little in return. I will need some help that first day. I will need some people to help direct the parking. I need people to be cashiers. I could use some help serving refreshments. And I definitely need some photographers to capture this great day with pictures.

I wish that I could give you the exact date. But, as with all other farms, it’s going to depend on the growing conditions to give us a good flush of new flowers. The plants have come a long way in the last week or two. Right now, I am estimating that it will be Saturday, June 28. The only question is if it will need to be one week later, if we have some late bloomers. Unfortunately, that will put it on July 5, which is a holiday weekend. But, I’m certain that we would still have a big crowd. So, all I can tell you is to watch my website: www.coloradomountainviewlavender.com for that opening day. And there will be plenty of announcements in church as well.
