The Mount Calvary Book Group meets the last Monday of each month of September-May in the Sullivan Room. (They take a break during the busy month of December and do not meet during the summer.) Over the Christmas and Summer breaks they often read longer books. The book selections, based on the consensus of the group, range widely from science fiction to historical fiction, to works that tackle specific religious, spiritual and/or social issues. Everyone is invited to attend these meetings whether you have read the books or not. It’s ok if you just want to listen to the discussion and then decide whether you would like to read the book. All are welcome!
The group is currently reading Liar, Temptress, Soldier Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War by Karen Abbott— “the spellbinding true story of four women who risked everything to become spies during the Civil War. Karen Abbott illuminates one of the most fascinating yet little known aspects of the Civil War: the stories of four courageous women—a socialite, a farmgirl, an abolitionist, and a widow—who were spies.”
The next meeting is Monday, September 26, 2016.
